Dale Olson

I'm a graphic designer. A writer/editor/photographer/designer.

I create things for a living. It usually has something to do with printing it onto paper, but I've embraced the web and have been using computers since that first TRS-80 Color Computer with a tape drive arrived under the Christmas tree.

Since then I've worked in print shops making everything under the sun. T-shirts, banners, vinyl signs, brochures, posters, magazines and even political yard signs. I've worked at four newspapers: started off as the proverbial paperboy throwing papers from my bike on my neighborhood route. Worked my way into layout, darkroom work and then after college, did photography copy editing and page layout and did Page 1 design as a news editor. I worked with some tough copy desks and survived.

I was there when newspapers went online and have been part of it since. I don't just design it - I've also written it as well. I've done sports writing, features and have done several years of movie, music and book reviews. They even let me write a weekly column!

I've also spent almost 10 years in the packaging business - learning the ins and outs of corporate design with dozens of customers. I've worked with some of the biggest companies in the business getting their products to the shelves of consumers across the world. The world of packaging is one that starts not as a label, a bag or a package - but one of an idea in someone's head. I feel I'm good at getting that down onto a customer's package and working on the technical side of things as well. Becoming a packaging specialist alongside working with ISO, AIB and SQF certifications, too.

I've had supervisory experience, working with small teams and with large groups. Meeting deadlines or sales quotas were the goals of the day - and we met often to work out the details and set goals together. I learned from some of the best over the years and hope to pass along that leadership to others too.

This site is a place for me to show my work, but also for future employers to find out about me and my skills. I hope to show you what I can do!
